雷出地奮 豫 先王以作樂崇德 殷薦之上帝 以配祖考

Thunder is roaring and the Earth is vibrating! This is the natural phenomenon of the hexagram ䷏ Yu 豫. Learning from this, the previous king composed music to express himself, offered it to the Heavenly Gods, and resonated with his ancestors.

-Da Xiang

Video: I took this quick video of an ancient sacred site after teaching in Brittany, France in April 2023, thunder suddenly came roaring from a single cloud in an almost totally blue sky and I immediately thought of Yu Hexagram.

The first four Chinese characters of hexagram Yu’s Da Xiang sentence, LeiChuDiFen 雷出地奮, describe the natural energetic patterns of the hexagram ䷏. You may notice that the style of this description is very different from the those of the hexagrams we have previously discussed. Instead of characterizing the structure of the upper and lower trigrams as before, this sentence focuses on the actions of the trigrams.
