風雷 益 君子以見善則遷 有過則改
There is wind and thunder, which is the phenomenon of hexagram Yì 益䷩; Learn from this – do good deeds as soon as the opportunity arises and fix mistakes as soon you have made them.
—DaXiang
Interestingly, Hexagram Yì 益䷩’s DaXiang sentence starts with only two Chinese words (instead of the usual four), just as we saw with hexagram Heng 恆 ䷟, to describe the natural phenomenon that best represents the hexagram, and it also uses the exact same words, just in different order. Here, the first word, Fēng 風 for wind or wind blowing, which represents the top trigram Xùn 巽 ☴. The second word, Léi 雷, which means thunder or thundering and is the symbolic name of bottom trigram, Zhèn 震 ☳. In both hexagram sentences, Fēng and Léi are used as verbs.
